Apple Looks to Open up Own Branded Stores in India

Apple’s filing of application with India’s industrial policy and promotion department, to open up own branded stores in India might be an indication of things to come in future. The premium smartphone player has been operating via a franchise model, till date in India, which is to be the second largest market, per our latest report.

iPhones of lately have been getting a price cut in India, as inventories started piling up with major distributors in the last quarter of 2015. The vendor has not been able to replicate in India, the success it has had at the global stage and was ranked 7th in Q3 2015 in the Indian Smartphone market. Both its flagship devices in iPhone 6s and 6S plus, have been priced out of the reach of Indian consumers who have had a multitude of Android alternatives from the Chinese and local vendors, in the mid-price tiers.
