Apple is the King in Japan, however, Sony is the Tycoon at NTT-Docomo

Strategy Analytics has recently published a report, 'Japan Handset Vendor Marketshare by Operator: Q2 2015', under Handset Country Share Tracker (HCST) service, and according to this report, Sony maintained the number one handset vendor position through NTT-Docomo during Q2 2015 while Apple remained the clear number one handset vendor in Japan for two years.

Sony's handset leadership at NTT-Docomo, the largest mobile carrier in Japan, is mostly attributed to the robust and steady popularity of its Xperia-branded smartphones such as Z3, Z3 Compact, A4 along with the newly-launched Z4 in the domestic market during the quarter.

This extensive report tracks 17 handset vendors' marketshare including Apple, Sony, Sharp, Fujitsu, Kyocera, Samsung, Huawei, ZTE, LG, HTC, Panasonic and others, by quarter at all major operators in Japan, including NTT Docomo, Softbank and KDDI from Q1 2012 to Q2 2015.
