In a pair of new reports Strategy Analytics'
Device Technologies service breaks down and forecasts sales,
wholesale ASP and revenues of
Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G smartphones.
Building on previous reports showing ASP and revenues for LTE and 5G smartphones overall, the new research shows that fast growing sales of 5G smartphones globally are driving higher revenues for the newest generation of smartphones.
That 5G smartphone wholesale ASP are much higher than overall smartphone wholesale ASPs should come as no surprise. Equally, that 5G smartphones that incorporate mmWave technology have higher ASPs than non-mmWave phones should also shock exactly nobody.
mmWave 5G smartphones are primarily found in North America, as it is US operators that are fastest to deploy the technology. But other markets are beginning to add mmWave and will continue to grow that technology over time. Among smartphone vendors, Apple is the leader in mmWave as all of its US iPhone variants support the technology.
Because 5G smartphone ASPs are so much higher than other generation smartphones, and because mmWave 5G smartphones are more expensive still, this class of phones will drive the greatest amount of wholesale revenues in 2021 and beyond.
