Meizu Shows the Future of Conventional Smartphones with Zero

Meizu has quietly launched worlds first completely button-less/wireless phone the Meizu Zero. The device has no physical buttons or SIM tray. Charging is done via 18W wireless charging and SIM is eSIM only. Naturally all audio is transferred vis Bluetooth 5.0 and data via  Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. 

Rest of the specs are of a premium tier phone. Display is a 5.99-inch 19.5:9 ratio AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner and on the back there is a 12MP + 20MP dual camera setup while on the front there is a 20MP selfie camera. Snapdragon 845 powers the Zero. Internal memory variants are 4/6GB RAM + 64/128GB eMMC. Body is ceramic.

Speakers are done with a piezoelectric transducer placed underneath the display that is capable of giving sound through the display via vibrations. Volume and power buttons are done with capacitive touch areas on the side using haptic feedback. For high bandwidth data, that is needed for example in flashing the device etc., Meizu is using wireless USB similar to the Essential PH1,  Naturally the device also has IP68 rating.

The concept of totally wireless phones has been around for a decade almost but only recently has technologies achieved a state where these types of devices are possible. Wireless USB, BT 5.0, 18W Wireless charging, eSIM, all are technologies that are only now at the state that totally wireless/buttonless phones are possible. Meizu has shown us the direction of the conventional smartphone design.

Pricing or even availability are not know and Meizu is still positioning the device as concept, but the device looks ready enough to become available this year.
