Google Buys HTC Pixel

As expected, Google this week purchased HTC’s Pixel unit, taking on half the company’s handset R&D team. Google has paid US$1 billion to (once again) turn itself into a smartphone maker. The cash throws HTC a vital lifeline, but the firm’s longterm future remains in doubt.
