We forecast that the global sales of service robots is growing at CAGR of 25% from 2016 to 2022, with the biggest segment being personal service robots. We estimate global sales of personal service robots to grow 280% during the next six years. We estimate that global sales of logistics and delivery robots will grow over 600% during the forecast period. Personal service robots are the biggest group in an emerging class of service robots. The segment takes 99% share of all service robots in 2016. Collaborative household robots such as the Roomba from iRobot is the biggest sub segment with 62% global share but the share of edutainment robots such as Asus Zenbo is growing to surpass collaborative household robots in 2019. Artificial Intelligence, smartphone control and cloud connectivity are the primary accelerators in the adoption of personal service robots. Professional service robots are increasingly used in tasks that require speed, precision, accuracy or are too dangerous or difficult for humans to execute. Delivery and logistics is by far the biggest sub-segment with 41% global share 2016 and growing fast as the ecommerce business grows and delivery times shorten. These robots, such as Amazon’s Kiva, are used for tasks such as sorting and delivering packages in large warehouses and fullfillment centers.
