Our Devices team is on the showfloor at
MWC in sunny Barcelona, Spain.
A few extra thoughts from
day 1 (Sunday), in addition to my colleague's blog
here.
* SAMSUNG GALAXY S7: The big launch. The device and its satellite products were well received. Lots of focus on virtual reality -- VR is clearly going to be THE buzzword of the week! There was also a push for the Gear 360, a
fisheye lens attachment -- the mobile "camera wars" are quietly making a comeback.
* LG G5: A semi-modular formfactor with a slideout battery. A nice touch from LG and a glimpse into the
future of smartphone design. The phone sports a wide-angle lens, emphasizing one of the key themes at this year's show (next-gen super-cameras).
* HUAWEI MATEBOOK: The company's first
Windows 10 tablet. A 12-inch, 2-in-1, with a fingerprint reader. The design looks good, but a relatively high price and a lack of enterprise distribution channels will play against it. This is NOT an iPad Pro killer.
More tomorrow.
