News emerged this week that
Verizon Wireless will be
field-trialing a basic
5G network in parts of the
United States in 2016. Technology partners for the test will include
Ericsson, Cisco, Nokia and others.
This is a small but
important move for the
5G phone market. It confirms the US as a pioneering 5G country. And it shows the mobile world is plowing full-steam ahead with its plans to make 5G the industry's next
major growth driver through the 2020s.
Our
WDS (Devices) service expects global
5G phone shipments to grow sharply from 2020 onwards, led by companies such as Samsung and Qualcomm. More analysis and forecasts can be viewed by clients
