India set to make a comeback in Handset Manufacturing

by Rajeev Nair | Aug 26, 2015

The “Make in India” initiative has set stage for the country to be positioned as an alternative to China, in mobile handset manufacturing. After two consecutive years of sharp decline in the manufacturing output, per our report (available here), a significant uptick in the share of domestically produced devices is expected from 2015 onwards, from all key vendors operating in India.

Our new report on India Handset Manufacturing Trends by Vendor, analyses the manufacturing commitments of all major handset vendors in India. The report also captures our perspective on the manufacturing drivers and challenges that the country is likely to face in its march up to being the China alternative.
