Profits increase for handset vendors in Q2'15, but are concentrated with the top 2 companies

by Ken Hyers | Aug 19, 2015

While profits remain elusive for many handset vendors, revenues for global handset makers grew by more than 11% annually in Q2 2015.  Profits grew even quicker, up over 24% in Q2’15 from the year-ago quarter.  Those profits are largely captured by two vendors, with one (Apple) capturing the lion’s share of those profits.

Apple solidified its leading position by profitability in the second quarter of 2015 and Huawei maintained third place for revenue and profits in the quarter. Xiaomi lost value share annually, while OPPO and Vivo are performing well.

Our extensive report provides quarterly global handset ASPs, revenues and profit metrics for 16 major handset OEMs from 2007 through Q2 2015. Revenue share and profit share are also supplied. The report is a highly valuable tool for operators, component makers, automotive players and financial analysts who want to track the financial health and pricing of mobile phone vendors.
