Mobile Computing Market Up Overall in Q2 2021 Despite Looming Supply Issues

by Eric Smith | Sep 24, 2021

Q2 2021 showed year-over-year growth for mobile computing shipments once again but it also marked a turning point going into the second half of the year where supply constraints and shipping costs are expected to increase across the industry. Compared to the previous year’s quarter, the notebook market grew 15% and the tablet market grew 5%. This tension between high demand and low component supply will test vendors and their channel partners as both Back to School and winter holiday shopping looms.

Q2 2021 was another positive quarter as the Delta variant added new uncertainty to reopening plans around the world and household ownership is trending higher. ASPs remained steady, if not slightly higher as supply constraints and freight costs add pricing pressure.
