Bluetooth trackers are an emerging class of devices for locating lost objects. While 2021 was a boom year for Bluetooth trackers, as a class of devices they’ve been around for most of the past decade.
Bluetooth trackers are a unique class of device – they’re designed to only be used when they are lost.
For people that don’t lose things, they’re at best nice-to-have for peace-of-mind, and at worst a waste of money. For others, who habitually lose items or want the security of knowing that if a high-value item is lost, it is more likely to be found, they are a boon.
Tile was the best known maker of Bluetooth tracking devices and largely owned the market, despite the fact that dozens of other companies also made Bluetooth trackers as well.

In 2021 Samsung and entered the Bluetooth tracker market, with Apple immediately capturing the majority of global sales for this class of devices.
The global Bluetooth tracker market will nearly double in size year-on-year in 2022, while the installed base of these devices will grow at triple digits annually through 2027 (and likely beyond). Apple was the leader in global sales in 2021, while Tile had the largest installed base (more than half the market!).
