In the US, screen quality, size, and reliability/reputation are the three main purchasing factors for survey respondents’ next TV purchase, with the majority of respondents indicating that they plan on purchasing a TV that is bigger than the one they currently own. As awareness of 4K increases and the amount of available content rises, interest in having a 4K TV has also increased. Next generation TV feature interest also includes the ability to control and monitor smart home appliances. While consumers desire a variety of options to control the TV, including a smartphone/tablet, voice control and gesture control, they still want the option to use a dedicated remote control, due to ease and reliability. However, it is important the dedicated remote is not outdated and provides quick access and ease of navigation to content of interest. A touchscreen/touchpad remote is now looked upon to provide that effortless and fluid navigation that has long been sought after to overcome the cumbersome smart TV experience.
