Report Summary:

With consumers constantly asking themselves, “What should I watch?,” ease of content discovery is imperative to the TV/video experience. In the US, Western Europe and China, more OTT SVOD subscribers are satisfied with the recommendations provided, the range of content available and the ability to discover content of interest to watch via OTT SVOD services, than cable/satellite TV subscribers who are satisfied with those three aspects of their cable/satellite TV subscription. The Electronic Programing Guide (EPG), TV commercials, social media and word-of-mouth from family and friends are used to discover what, when and where certain TV shows will air on cable/satellite TV. However, recommendations via cable/satellite TV are perceived to be simply non-existent; unlike its OTT VOD competitors, where recommendations directly from the service are an important source of content discovery. The review/star rating system available via most OTT VOD services provides added-value and acts as a quick reference of how interested the user may be in a TV show/movie that has been recommended by the service.
