In the US and UK, the majority of respondents prefer purchasing and using DIY smart home technology. In comparison, the majority of respondents in China prefer purchasing and using an outsourced professional smart home service. When it comes to purchasing smart home technology, price is the most important purchase priority for respondents in the US and UK; whereas in China, ease of use is most important. Compatibility is also a high priority for smart home technology, with the majority of respondents from all regions indicating its importance when purchasing such technology. Brand is least important for respondents in all three regions. Dedicated electronic retail stores and online websites are the most preferred purchasing outlets for DIY smart home technology. Respondents prefer to purchase an outsourced professional smart home system in-store, from a company that is recommended, trusted, has good reviews and is considered an “expert” on such technology.
