While 2015 has been slow to bring smart home technology to the fore, consumer perceptions are changing. Early adopters of security, appliance and environmental smart home systems are starting to provide valuable evidence-based reviews on the benefits of investing in these systems. Whether to increase a sense of security at home or save money on heating or electricity bills, consumers are realising that these systems not only provide convenience and simplify daily life, but also cost efficiencies at a time when family budgeting is critical. Almost all consumers included in this study are interested in smart home technology because they want their home to be more secure, cut costs of home energy bills and have the ability to monitor activity while away from home. Having the latest and greatest technology was the least important reason for interest in smart home technology
