Report Summary:

Brain-Computer Interfaces are systems that allow direct communication between the Central Nervous System (CNS) and an external device. Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) (also known as Brain-machine interfaces, BMI) enable new ways to interact with computers and enhance how people communicate with each other.

This type of technology brings new use cases and applications – from rehabilitating patients after accidents, restoring speech and mobility caused by paralysis or disease, to much simpler functions of mind control such as changing a TV channel or diming a room’s lights. But the challenge now is to bring technology that was once found only in professional research labs or medical instructions to consumers in a meaningful, compelling and affordable way.

The aim of this report is to provide vendor profiles of the main companies that are active in the Brain Computer Interface industry. This report explores the future technologies and their use cases that will bring, amongst other things, consumers greater immersion into virtual environments, mind control of everyday objects and restore independence for patients with brain injuries or illness. Research in this area through BCI technology may also bring us closer to understanding the inner workings of the human brain, in addition to understanding human intent.
