Biometrics are biological measurements that can be used to identify individuals and include the statistical analysis of an individual’s unique physical and behavioral characteristics. Biometric authentication is most widely used in applications such as identification and access control to increase safety and security.
The most common forms of biometric authentication include fingerprint, facial, and iris recognition. Biometrics is becoming increasingly commonplace in consumer applications, particularly driven by the convenience of not needing to remember passwords, pin codes or physical tokens.
The biometrics industry is vast with many facets and many companies that contribute to it. The aim of this report is to provide vendor profiles of the some of the main companies that are active in this area (revenues of ~$10 million+) and the biometric technologies that are directly applicable to consumers. The list is not exhaustive. The companying excel spreadsheet “Biometric Company Database” further details biometric hardware and software companies that also contribute to this industry.
