Biometrics are biological measurements that can be used to identify individuals and include the statistical analysis of an individual’s unique physical and behavioral characteristics. Biometric authentication is most widely used in applications such as identification and access control to increase safety and security.
The most common forms of biometric authentication include fingerprint, facial, and iris recognition. Biometrics is becoming increasingly commonplace in consumer applications, particularly driven by the convenience of not needing to remember passwords, pin codes or physical tokens.
This report follows on our previous report detailing specific applications of biometrics and profiles of biometric suppliers. This report focuses on consumer perceptions of biometrics, examining:
• Consumer exposure to various biometrics,
• Consumer interest in current and future use cases for biometrics,
• Willingness to pay,
• Additional use cases,
• Consumer concerns.
