Issues associated with cost – either the outright monthly costs or notion that users can obtain the music they want for free elsewhere – are the biggest barriers to paying for a music service. Furthermore, mobile music file sharing apps continue to discourage consumers to pay for music; though this has the potential to be overcome by reducing the monthly costs of music streaming services and providing more payment options. OEM-branded mobile music services have the potential to reduce device brand churn if free, no-ad services are offered and pre-installed on smartphones.
