OECD Mobile Voice and Data Price Benchmarking Q3 2021 update:

The Q3 2021 update of the OECD Mobile and Data Voice Price Benchmarking service is now available for download. For a residential user with a high call and moderate data (making 300 calls a month totaling just over 577 minutes, and with a 5 GB mobile data requirement and 225 text messages), the Prepaid Epic Value tariff from Australian operator, Optus is the cheapest overall, at USD PPP 8.97 per month. Next cheapest are the Smart LU SIM only 5G tariff from Tango in Luxembourg (at USD PPP 9.63/month), the Cellcom Perfect Package 5G tariff from Israeli operator Cellcom, (at USD PPP 10.12/month), and the Dev 80 GB tariff from Turkcell in Turkey (at USD PPP 10.34/month. The tariffs from both Tango and Optus match the data requirement of the basket precisely, at 5 GB, while the Cellcom tariff offers a staggering 200 GB per month (up from 150 GB last quarter), and the Turkcell tariff an impressive 80 GB per month.

At the other end, T-Mobile in Hungary comes in as the most expensive for this basket, at USD PPP 76.60/month for the Mobil L 15 GB tariff, while second most expensive with its 4G All -you-can-use Max, Flate rate call light tariff coming in at USD 60.26 is KDDI au of Japan. Both these featured as most expensive last quarter, too.

The average cost for this basket across all OECD countries is USD PPP 26.35/month.

5G tariffs are starting to feature more in the results, with some 5G plans featuring as the overall cheapest for this basket.

The Q3 2021 update for Mobile Voice and Data service incorporates the OECD 2017 baskets, which are shown in the table below.
