Report Summary:

OECD Mobile Broadband Price Benchmarking Q3 2021 update: 10 cheapest countries for 10GB per month Vs 20GB per month baskets.

The Q3 2021 update of the OECD Mobile Broadband Price Benchmarking service is now available for download and includes over 1,480 mobile broadband tariff plans from 110 providers across 37 OECD countries.

The graphs below show the 10[1] cheapest offers for the 10GB per month Mobile Broadband basket and the 10 cheapest offers for the 20GB per month Mobile Broadband basket, where Denmark, Finland, Italy, and Switzerland share the same plan for both baskets.

Sunrise in Switzerland is the cheapest offer in both cases with an unlimited data plan at USD/PPP 3.2 price per month but at a maximum download speed of 0.5 Mbps.

On the other hand, TeliaSonera in Finland, again with an unlimited offering at a lower speed of 0.256 Mbps, position itself in 3rd place for the 10GB basket, and second for the 20GB basket at a USD/PPP 7.9 price per month for both baskets.

In the case of Denmark: Telenor, offers the cheapest price within the country with a 20GB allowance plan.

While in Italy, 20GB is the lowest allowance offered from the 3 main providers in the country.

Meanwhile, the remaining countries from this top ten list, offer very competitive prices for the 20GB vs the 10GB basket.

An example of this is Australia, which for the 20GB basket an offer from Vodafone at USD/PPP 12.9 is only 28% higher than the Optus cheapest offer for the 10GB basket.

However, in Turkey, Turk Telekom offers the cheapest options for both baskets, where its 20GB offer at USD/PPP 12.4 is 37% higher than its offer for the 10GB basket.

[1]Note: Greece does not show results for the 20GB basket as we are only considering the top 10 cheapest countries for this summary results. The same happens for Lithuania which ranks as the 12th for the 10GB basket.

We have observed a few providers moving away from pure mobile broadband tariffs, and instead offering mobile data within a mobile voice tariff.  Both Movistar and Tigo in Colombia, Cellcom in Israel, Movistar, and Telcel in Mexico and finally Movistar and Vodafone in Spain no longer offer mobile broadband-only pricing. We anticipate seeing more providers following this trend in the future.

The OECD Mobile Broadband Price Benchmarking Service uses the OECD 2017 baskets, and these are shown in the table above. There is no distinction between device types, so all baskets can be used with any device.
