The Cost of Fibre-Based Broadband

Report Summary:

Fibre services are increasingly being rolled out across the 40 countries covered in Teligen’s Fixed Broadband Price Benchmarking Service, and now account for around a quarter of all fixed broadband packages. A key benefit to users of fibre services is the uplift in speed, compared to more traditional xDSL packages. This uplift in speed does not necessarily mean a corresponding high rise in the cost of the service, and when we look at how costs compare to traditional xDSL offerings, the findings are interesting. But while fibre services appear to offer the promise of high speed at relatively low cost, widespread availability remains limited and will be for some time to come. This short Insight looks at how prices of fibre services compare to traditional xDSL as well as cable, and examines some of the other issues that need to be taken into account.
