Wireless Market Outlook: Competing Impacts of COVID-19 and 5G

Report Summary:

COVID-19 will trigger a 2.6% decline in wireless service revenue in 2020, taking revenue back to levels last seen in 2012. Long term prospects still remain very good for 5G, forecast to account for 2.8 billion user-linked connections in 2025, though growth in 2020 will be slow with South Korea, China and the US accounting for over 85% of the 215 million total. After a turbulent 2020/21, wireless service revenue will begin to stabilise and recover from 2023 as 5G provides a stronger contribution to connectivity revenue. Nevertheless service provider revenues which peaked in 2017 will continue to decline over the next 5 years.
