Report Summary:

Strategy Analytics web-based consumer surveys among mobile phone owners in France compared Orange, SFR, Bouygues and Free based on subscriber attitudes on service provider selection, churn intent, 4G motivations, data pricing preferences, Wi-Fi use and inhibitors. The analysis also views differences by carrier on user information such as household size and income levels, mobile spend and usage of a range of mobile services, such as OTT voice and text versus use of the operator’s text and voice services. Key findings show:
  • Free’s low pricing results in over 60% of its customers spending less than €7.50 per month, with average spend less than half the French average;
  • Free’s customer have a lower frequency of use across many communications and basic VAS services, while Orange and SFR customers are more likely to use OTT voice/video services. Bouygues’s customers showed the highest frequency of browsing use.
  • Modest variations in how customers want data caps to be managed, with Bouygues and Free users more interested in “free options” (throttling or unlimited data) and Orange and SFR customers more open to buying additional data bundles.
