Report Summary:

Multiplay service bundling is becoming increasingly popular on a global basis as operators seek to reduce churn, increase ARPU, and offer new services to customers. Creating double, triple, and quad-play service options has been a proven strategy for achieving these goals, and customers have been drawn to the cost savings, especially as global economic conditions were recovering over the past few years. Once a customer is engaged in a multi-service bundle, they are much less likely to switch providers as they enjoy the cost savings as well as other benefits which vary by operator and region. As an example, some operators offer additional data allowances for mobile plans if the customer also has a fixed broadband service. In Spain, a shift in bundles has been taking place, as double-play and triple-play subscribers have been declining significantly while quad-play is gaining. There were 10.8 million multiplay households in Spain at the end of 2013, with 54.4% of those taking a quad-play bundle compared to only 11.2% at the end of 2012. The transition will continue to take place through 2014 and 2015. In the United Kingdom, we forecast double-play households to begin declining in 2017 as more customers move to triple and quad-play offers. Bundle offers in the UK have become increasingly aggressive, with tremendous discounts and free services for a number of months. Operators are also offering additional bonuses for bundling, including increased data allowances on mobile plans.
