A significant proportion of consumers are actively considering switching mobile service provider in the next three months for a lower cost plan due to COVID-19. Of greatest concern to service providers is the fact that it is the higher-value segments which are most at risk, with owners of higher-end smartphones and those who now plan to spend more than previously intended on their next phone more likely to churn. Service providers must take care navigating the next smartphone upgrade cycle as those consumers balance device and service costs and increasingly make brand choices based on how they feel those brands have handled the pandemic.
