Deployment of new SDN enabled and Cloud services represent a major revenue opportunity for mobile operators and their software developers. In a survey sponsored by Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Strategy Analytics identified a number of new Mobile Service Opportunities for 2016 and beyond.
As SDN enables new leverageable service functionality for both end user and network applications, software developers find themselves with a new software environment and a variety of new APIs for both new service enablement and legacy migration. See Blog 'Northbound Interfaces are Coming. Change your API or Die’.
New API functionality and SDN Controller Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) will allow user and network services to dynamically request the virtualized resources they require for end-to-end Service control and delivery.
Software for new SDN enabled services will be developed to operate efficiently across multiple platforms. However a migration path for today’s significant installed base of ‘walled garden’ and legacy service applications is also essential as these services still represent significant revenue for mobile operators.
Key new SDN enabled services identified by 30 percent or more of the respondents include::User Quality of Service Control, Dynamic Service Set up and Release. Business Service Creation, Global Cloud Services, Seamless Wi-Fi and Fixed Access.
