Mobile broadband video represents a growing and soon predominant percentage of mobile broadband data traffic even after all Wi-Fi video offload is netted out. In this report we analyze the different rates of video traffic growth by region and by device group for:
  • Group1. Handsets – feature phones and smartphones
  • Group 2. Tablets, PCs and other devices including gaming consoles etc.
      Video has become the ‘Elephant in the Room’ that no one wants to talk about –and Video Delivery Optimization (VDO) was only applied to about 10% of 2014 traffic.

      This forecast and outlook estimates the magnitude of the potential VDO market opportunity. VDO is expected to:
      • Expand to apply to over 26% of total video traffic by 2019
      • Reduce traffic at peak periods by almost 13%
      • Reduce Peak Traffic loads by 4.8 Exabytes in 2019.
      Applying the latest VDO techniques will be an important element of Mobile Network Operator (MNO) capacity optimization strategy for the rest of the decade.
