Complete Mobile Infrastructure Player Did Cisco just add final piece to Mobile Jigsaw Puzzle
As ‘All IP’ networking redefines the architecture for mobile infrastructure the competitive game is changing. Over the last five years Cisco has steadily added to its mobile infrastructure portfolio by acquisitions and by expanding its existing product capabilities. Solutions for the Mobile Core, IP Routing, Services at the Edge and Network Policy Control, Optimization and Management have all been brought together. Now with the acquisition of Ubiquisys, small cells for the Radio Access Network (RAN) are being added to the portfolio alongside Carrier Class WiFi and seamless Passpoint/Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) Roaming. This Viewpoint reviews Cisco’s path to completing the mobile infrastructure jigsaw puzzle and how it could lead to head-to-head competition with the traditional Telecomms Equipment Suppliers (TEMs), e.g. Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia Siemens Networks.
