North America shipments of Connected TV Devices fell by 23% year-over-year in Q3 2021 to 22.85 million units. Smart TV shipments declined by 29% as unfavorable comparisons with the record breaking demand levels of Q3 2020 were accentuated by rising TV retail prices. Shipments of streaming media players also fell by more than 20% while game console demand was flat as PS5 growth was offset by a significant decline in Nintendo Switch sales. The overall installed base of connected TV devices reached 400 million units by the end of the quarter and the smart TV share of the base increased slightly to 47%. The global component shortage is starting to weigh more heavily on the market and several brands are revising their full year shipment targets downwards as a result of weakening consumer demand and rising raw material and transport costs.
