Report Summary:

The year 2014 saw travel apps maturing as their utility increased. Hotels introduced and expanded the ability to bypass check-in with electronic room keys delivered via application. Airlines enabled passport scanning to avoid the inconvenience of waiting in line prior to an international flight. OTAs have focused on beautiful tablet experiences. These enhancements have been driven by the travel industry itself. Several important market introductions took place; the iPhone 6 Plus, Android Wear and Apple Pay but they have not had a seismic impact on travel apps. Next year however will likely see market forces demanding a rethink and realignment of app strategies.
