Windows 8 One Small Step for Man One Giant Leap for Developers
Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 helped Microsoft redefine Windows on a phone. The release of Windows Phone 7.5 – also known as Mango – smoothed out some rough edges while adding some polish. Despite the upgrade, the platform was still lagging behind the competition. There was no support for HD screens, no in-app purchase, and limited background tasks to name a few glaring holes. The launch of Windows Phone 8 however will close the gap between Microsoft’s OS, iOS and Android in the battle for developers’ hearts and minds and puts additional pressure on RIM and Google when they announce their new OSes later this year.
