The quarterly market updates in our Connected TV Strategies service has demonstrated strong growth in connected TV device sales (i.e., smart TVs, streaming media players, game consoles, etc.) and adoption in many global markets. These models also illustrate the complexity of the user device landscape, since devices are characterized by, amongst other things, vendor brand and operating system (OS). The latter can be thought of as the TV streaming platform, since this enables the device to deliver multiple streaming video apps and services to the end user, as well as supporting many related functions such as analytics and targeted advertising.
Modelling connected TV households is complex as it involves understanding multiple levels of ownership across and within types of connected TV devices as well as across and within different platforms. This report aims to model the number of households owning at least one connected TV device by factoring in assumptions around multiple ownership levels which are gleaned from our own- and third-party consumer surveys.
This report will be accompanied by a series of other regionally grouped forecast reports from 2018-2030 for the 30 countries covered by our quarterly TV streaming platform tracking.
