Report Summary:

Global IPTV subscriptions will reach 68 million by 2014, according to Strategy Analytics’ latest modelling. This figure represents a downward revision from our earlier forecast, and is based largely on the “undelivered promises” of IPTV.

The game changing interactivity and addressability, promised for so long, have yet to materialize on any significant scale. Despite the downward revision, however, there are glimmers of hope. San Jose-based BlackArrow, an addressable advertising provider, recently announced that it had raised $20 million its latest round of funding. Led by NDS, and backed by other ecosystem heavy hitters such as Cisco, Comcast, and Intel, this intensive capital injection could very well propel addressable advertising—and the promise of IPTV—forward.
