As a retailer, the sale of DVDs and Blu-ray disks has been an important revenue stream for Carrefour, however, with physical media in decline due to consumers migrating to digital, Carrefour must adapt to changing consumer behaviour. Carrefour, however, is not the first retailer to develop its own online video service. Tesco (Blinkbox), Walmart (Vudu), Target (Target Ticket), and Best Buy (CinemaNow) have all launched online video services with little to no success, so why do we believe things will be different this time? This Insight will examine why Carrefour’s new online video service has a better chance of success than those of its peers.
