Disney Supplants Tencent as 2nd Largest Provider of SVOD Services
Strategy Analytics' VOD Service Performance Benchmarking Report analyzes quarterly subscribers, monthly active user (MAU), and revenue trends for 24 publicly traded SVOD and AVOD services.
Global SVOD subscriptions passed 769M in Q3 2020, up 7.1% QoQ, among SVOD services tracked. Disney+ (16.2M), Tencent Video (6.00M) and Amazon Prime Video (5.24M) combined to account for nearly 54% of new SVOD subscribers in Q3 2020, among SVOD services tracked. Combined Disney services (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+) accounted for 44% of new SVOD subscribers.
Despite seeing monthly active users (MAUs) grow by 7.0% QoQ in Q3 2020 Roku saw its share of MAUs decline from 25.8% in Q2 2020 to 24.8% in Q3 2020. Driving this decline was the grow of Crackle Plus, whose share of MAUs was up 2.9 share points.
