Disney edges out Netflix as largest SVOD company
Strategy Analytics' VOD Service Performance Benchmarking Report analyzes quarterly subscribers, monthly active user (MAU), and revenue trends for 34 SVOD services. Services added to the tracker in in Q2 2021 include Foxtel NOW, Kayo Sport, and Binge. Also new is revenue for Tencent Video, Crunchyroll, and HUB+.
In Q2 2022, Disney, with 221.00M subscribers across Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, edged out Netflix (220.62M subscribers) as the largest SVOD company. Global SVOD services tracked added 12.55M subscribers in Q2 2022, reaching 1,156.93B. Leading the way was Disney+ with 14.00M net adds, Amazon Prime Video (4.16M), and Paramount+ (3.70M). Combined these three services accounted for 71% of net adds in Q2 2022. For the second quarter in a row Netflix lost subscribers, down 1.01M. Overall, 15 out of the 35 SVOD services tracked lost subscribers in Q2 2022.
