Report Summary:

In Q1 2013 we added TripAdvisor to Digital Media Index (DMI), deepening OAI’s coverage of the World’s leading digital media companies. Global digital media sector revenues continued to grow in the fourth quarter expanding 22 per cent, with revenues from DMI companies reaching $36.7 billion from $30 billion in Q1 2012, equal to a 219 per cent increase from index base period Q4 2006. Seventeen companies managed to beat year on year quarterly index growth. Youku, Blinkx, Qihoo, LinkedIn and Pandora lead index growth signaling solid growth in online video, social networking and online music. In terms of segments, online gaming was the only sector that beat quarterly index growth of 22 per cent. Online game sector expanded by 27.9 per cent to $4 billion, equal to 340 per cent increase from index base year 2006. In terms of trailing twelve month revenues (TTM), DMI grew 4.8 per cent from the previous quarter to reach $140 billion, equal to a 251 per cent increase from the index base year 2006. Sixteen companies managed to beat year on year TTM index growth of 22.9 per cent—Youku, Qihoo and Blinkx leading the way.
