Digital Television Operator Performance Benchmarking North America Q3 2011
Collectively, US Pay TV providers witnessed their second consecutive period of net subscriber losses, purging 200,000 net customers in the third quarter, with Cable TV again taking the brunt of the hit. Indeed, for the fourteenth consecutive quarter, US Cable companies posted negative net additional subscribers. Satellite TV rebounded from negative net adds in the preceding quarter, driven by a very strong quarter from DirecTV. Dish, however, posted subscriber losses for the second quarter in a row.
DirecTV led the quarter in total Digital TV net new subscribers, posting 327,000 in Q3. Telco TV continues to show strong growth, with IPTV providers adding over 300,000 altogether. AT&T was able to supplant Cox as the sixth largest provider of Pay TV services in North America.
