Broadband Service Provider Performance Benchmarking North America Q3 2011
US Broadband service providers added 674,000 residential broadband subscribers in the third quarter of 2011--a 22% decrease in net additional subs from the same quarter last year. Although net adds have been consistently lower quarter-over-quarter, this is the first observation of subscriber additions remaining flat in consecutive quarters. As US household broadband penetration matures--it will reach 74% in 2012--we expect to see a continuing plateauing of net additional subscribers.
Collectively tracked, US DSL providers lost 523,000 subscribers over the quarter, and 1.4 million subscribers during the year. Tracked Fiber providers added 646,000 subscribers during the quarter and 2.5 million subs during the year; tracked Cable providers added 464,000 subscribers in Q3'11 and 2.5 million subs during the year.
