Report Summary:

Microsoft used its MIX10 event in Las Vegas to build on its Windows Phone 7 Series announcement at Mobile World Congress, by showcasing its upcoming Windows Phone, and to demonstrate that the OS already has the backing of some impressive third-party developers. Microsoft is divesting itself of its long standing Windows Mobile platform in favour of Windows Phone, an impressive “redesigned from the ground-up” operating system that integrates next-generation entertainment features with the company’s established offerings for business users and IT departments. However, the two operating systems are completely incompatible: Windows Mobile phones cannot run Windows Phone, and the new OS will not support legacy Windows Mobile applications. At a time when personal liable devices are increasingly prevalent in businesses, and RIM has opened up BES with the release of BESX, does this mean that the mobile enterprise is now up for grabs?
