Report Summary:

Nokia announced on February 11th, 2011, that Microsoft Windows Phone will become the company's primary global platform for the high-growth smartphone category. Symbian will be completely replaced by Microsoft. Nokia will license Windows Phone from Microsoft, while Microsoft cross-licenses Navteq maps from Nokia and support Nokia’s marketing efforts on Windows Phone 7. Both companies also have a vested interest in the lucrative enterprise market, and in many ways the announcement builds on previous joint enterprise announcements by the two companies to develop Microsoft Office and roll out Office Communicator Mobile on the Symbian platform. This report will examine what capabilities the new company can bring to enterprises, analyse the new strategic direction of the partnership, and identify competition as well as risks associated with the new venture.
