Report Summary:

Mobile service providers play a key role in many M2M deployments due to the ubiquity of cellular networks and need to have modules in a variety of locations, including cars and commercial fleets. The security of connections (i.e. the inability to physically cut connections) makes cellular M2M a good choice for applications like home and office security as well as surveillance. Industry cross-standard body initiatives such as oneM2M (“Is the oneM2M Initiative the "Eureka" Moment for the M2M Industry?”) are beginning to drive standardization at the service layer level for M2M communications, and now carriers are extending partnerships more extensively to enable greater harmonization across network APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), with the goal of single SIMs for multiple networks.
