eSIM (Embedded Subscriber Identity Module) or eUICC (Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card) has been heralded as the next evolution of the SIM card, offering the ability to change service provider profiles over-the-air (OTA), without needing to physically swap the SIM card itself. eSIMs are specifically designed to address the limitations of physical SIM cards. They incorporate new functionalities that are needed to enable connected devices where it is either difficult or inefficient to access a physical SIM, for example healthcare devices, connected vehicles, or a whole range of other IoT devices. This report looks at the adoption of eSIM in industry verticals and the evolution of eSIM across regions and verticals.
