Report Summary:

In late September 2014, Chinese infrastructure and networking behemoth, Huawei, acquired a far less well-known UK technology start up, Neul, allegedly for around $25m. Neul is a pioneer in the development of Weightless, which uses unlicensed spectrum to connect devices in the burgeoning Internet of Things (IoT) and specifies the wireless air interface, technology through security and authentication up to subscription management and application layers. It is dedicated to serving IoT applications that can benefit from ultra-low power and spectrally efficient connections in areas such as smart metering, oil tank monitoring, smart parking, street lighting, waste management and other low bandwidth smart city applications.
