Global smartwatch revenues in Q3 2016 were up 11% QoQ with the industry ARPU averaging US$263. With few new and exciting models in Q3 and discounts on aging lineups, the product mix skewed lower. Apple and Huawei have met some success with high-end smartwatches but it is the sub-US$500 segment that counts for 4 of every 5 units sold and, critically, 3 of every 5 dollars spent. We expect an upbeat Q4 with brisk sales for Apple’s “Series” models to be followed by a competitive market in 2017. Our report tracks smartwatch revenues and shipments marketshare for leading vendors by quarter from 2013 to Q3 2016. It can be used by device OEM's, component suppliers, operators, developers/ content providers and others to scale the global market.
