Fitness Band shipments in the fourth quarter of 2016 declined for the first time ever by -13% YoY as smartwatches showed stronger growth in the quarter and finally began a fitness band cannibalization trend. Xiaomi remained roughly flat YoY, but overtook Fitbit for the first time ever this quarter to claim the #1 spot as demand again shifted towards lower price tiers. Fitbit saw weaker consumer demand this quarter and was de-throned as both the fitness band and wearable market leader, falling to second position. The company is losing ground to rivals like Apple and it desperately needs new products in smartwatches and fitness bands to arrest the slide. Our report tracks global fitness band volume and share by hardware vendor by quarter by region. It can be used by device makers, component suppliers, operators, software developers and other stakeholders to determine the size of the fitness band market worldwide.
