BlackBerry’s handset business remained weak, with unit shipments down sequentially and year-on-year as inventory issues and weak demand for its devices continued. In the face of this, BlackBerry is now charting a course in which it places less reliance on device sales and greater focus on software and services, two areas which traditionally have contributed less to the company’s bottom lines, but whose growth could help insulate it from a fickle handset market.
