Report Summary:

Global smartphone shipments rose 43% annually to a record 60 million units during Q2 2010. Healthy operator subsidies, vigorous competition between premium-tier vendors and a growing range of lower-cost models continued to drive the upswing. Despite ongoing challenges, Nokia managed to capture 40% marketshare, due to competitive pricing and a huge retail presence. RIM grew sales abroad and held its share around the 19% level. Apple experienced a mixed quarter, as public criticism of the poorly designed iPhone antenna increased.
